Euronav has a new chairman

The Board of Directors of Euronav NV (NYSE EURONEXT BRUSSELS: EURN) unanimously appointed Mr. Peter G. Livanos as Chairman of the Board, with immediate effect in replacement of Mr. Marc Saverys who was appointed Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Marc Saverys said: “I am pleased to step down after one of the busiest times the company had in its history and give the chairmanship to Peter for a period that promises to be very exciting, as the expected tanker shipping markets recovery seems in sight. Peter and Euronav can continue to count on my full support going forward.”

 

Peter G. Livanos said: “I am delighted to be able take over the chairmanship of Euronav from Marc and hope that my extensive business experience in the shipping markets will allow me to guide our management team as they seek to enhance value to our shareholders through the next cycle of the tanker industry. During Marc’s tenure as Chairman of the company, we successfully navigated through the world financial crisis and global recession. I am very conscious of continuing this successful stewardship of the company as we move into what looks to be an exciting period in shipping industry.”

Who is Peter G. Livanos ?

Peter G. Livanos, born 1956, is a Greek shipping tycoon. He owns the Greek shipping company Ceres Hellenic, and was involved in the restructuring of the shipping company into the group Ceres Hellenic. Peter lives with his family at Lake Geneva, Athens and London. He has an estimated fortune of $1.5 billion usd. Controls 100% of Ceres Hellenic Shipping, the largest Greek fleet, in terms of tonnage, and a smaller ferry line of Russian-made hydrofoils that serve the Greek Islands.  Livanos is a graduate of The Buckley School in New York, Le Rosey in Switzerland and Columbia University in New York. He is known for his yachting,  was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science by the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He was also the owner of the car manufacturer Aston Martin
